“163 married couples were selected by experts and each partner was asked to choose between a simple puzzle and a tougher competition. Thereafter, the conversation between each couple was recorded.”

The upshot of the experiment

“Experts conclude that those who inspire their spouses during decision-making processes advised them to go with the competition. On the other side of the spectrum, those who daunt their partners asked them to select the simple puzzle. Experts premeditated the couples once again after six months of the first experiment and found that the people who had encouraged their spouses to compete for a prize had a stouter relationship as compared to those who asked their spouses to choose the simple puzzle.”
