Khabib is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts history. BBC has announced that Russian UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has been voted its Sports Personality’s “World Sport Star of the Year.”
According to the publication,
“The 32-year-old mixed martial arts specialist has created a professional record for himself with 29 victories. Khabib defeated interim champion Justin Gaethje in a memorable match on October 24, 2020. The historic win against the champion Justin was an emotional one for the UFC lightweight champion who had lost his father, coach and mentor Abdulmanap only four months ago.”

UFC Star Khabib Nurmagomedov Named BBC’s ‘World Sport Star of the Year’
In an online public vote, Nurmagomedov surpassed the nominees and made his way to the top position. He beat off competition from Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, American basketball great LeBron James, American golfer Dustin Johnson, French footballer Wendie Renard, and Irish boxer Katie Taylor.
The great sportsman retired so soon
The sportsman, who is considered by some to be the “greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time” announced his retirement from the sport, right after his victorious match with Gaethje.
Speaking about his retirement, Khabib said in an interview,
“I have no plans to continue fighting, there will always be rumours about my comeback because Dana White or other promoters who could replace him in the future will always want me to fight. My goal was to reach the summit and I did it, Of course, I am in my prime and there’s still tons of money I could earn, but I had a different goal.”
